The Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FESTIVAL ~CONNECT Beyond That Time~ that celebrated the series was held at the Bunkyo Civic Center in Korakuen, Tokyo on the 19th. Notable attendees included Soichiro Hoshi, Rie Tanaka, Akira Ishida, Kenichi Suzumura, Hiro Shimono, T.M.Revolution, and Nami Tamaki.
The highly anticipated film, Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM, is a completely new addition to the series and scheduled for release on January 26, 2024. The event surrounding the movie will showcase well-known characters from the series, including Hoshi as Kira Yamato, Tanaka as Lacus Clyne, Ishida as Athrun Zala, and Suzumura as Shinn Asuka. Additionally, Shimono, portraying Orphee Lam Tao from “Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM” appeared at the event.
Kicking off with T.M.Revolution’s “INVOKE,” the excitement built with additional performances of “ignited” and “Meteor”.
T.M.Revolution, who also voiced Miguel Aiman in Gundam SEED and Heine Westenflus in Gundam SEED DESTINY, humorously shared his experiences, saying, “They killed off my character within a couple episodes. I was cut in half.” Despite facing challenges in convincing producers to create a movie, he expressed pride and joy: “We’ve continued to fight all this time. I don’t see these people as mere fans but rather my fellow compatriots. More than 20 years have passed!”
Acknowledging the hardships along the way, T.M.Revolution reflected on the moments of doubt and opposition, stating, “I felt like giving up many times. I may have been told many times that it’s time for Bandai and Sunrise to bow down and let me do something new. I’ve been waiting for this, so I’m really happy. As a fan, I feel the same as everyone.”
Additional details about Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM were revealed, including the theme song “FREEDOM” by Takanori Nishikawa with t.komuro, marking a dream collaboration with Tetsuya Komuro, a member of TM NETWORK. Nishikawa expressed his sentiment, saying, “We’ve been together for 20 years. Is it really okay to end these series? I took on the challenge with the desire to put everything into it.”
The Mobile Suit Gundam SEED series, the first Gundam TV series to air in the 21st century, originally aired in October 2002 and consisted of 50 episodes. In addition to its established fan base, the series has garnered a significant female following and attained an impressive audience rating of 8.0%. Moreover, it ignited a second wave of enthusiasm for Gunpla, particularly among elementary school students, propelling it to global popularity as the “new generation Gundam series.”
Director Mizuo Fukuda teased the movie Mobile Suit Gundam SEED FREEDOM as a sequel to Mobile Suit Gundam SEED DESTINY, promising to revisit characters and create a new drama set 20 years later. Fans were encouraged to look forward to this exciting sequel of the beloved series.
