The new “Full Metal Panic! Family” novel now on sale!

Today on my lunch break, I went down to the bookstore to pick up this glorious thing: the first brand new story in the Full Metal Panic! franchise in YEARS. I’m not even sure how long it’s actually been, but it feels like forever.

This is actually a continuation of the original story and takes place roughly 20 years into the future. Sosuke and Kaname got married and had two kids: Nami, a high school girl who follows in her father’s dangerous footsteps and Yasuto, an elementary school boy who has an affinity for technology like his mother. Everything seems like they’re an ordinary family living out their lives in domestic bliss… or at least that’s what it seems. I get the feeling something big will unknowingly spring upon them…

Here’s a look at the novel:

I haven’t had the chance to read much yet, but it begins with a couple really nice color illustrations of the family, giving us a quick glimpse into their family life. The narrative begins with Nami asking her father what weapons they should bring, the carbine and grenades. Kaname pleads with them, saying that she’s asked time and time again for them NOT to bring weapons, but the Yasuto speaks up, saying that some enemies are going to pop up, so it’s best to just let them bring the weapons. Where they plan on going and what/who this enemy is, I don’t quite know yet. From what I can tell, the narrative might be coming from Nami’s perspective, but I’m not exactly sure.

I will definitely share more information and my thoughts on the story again when I can!

Fantasia Bunko reveals details on the “Full Metal Panic! Family” novel

The latest installment into the Full Metal Panic! franchise comes just in time to celebrate its 25th Anniversary. With story written by Shouji Gatou and illustrations by Shikidouji, fans will be given a rare glimpse into the future lives of the main protagonists, Sosuke and Kaname, who have since married and are now living a happy life with daughter Nami and son Yasuto.

It will be interesting because Nami seems to be following in her father’s dangerous footsteps where as Yasuto is more apt with technology like his mother.

There are also a ton of bonus items depending on which store you purchase the book from, so be sure to check out what’s available as detailed on the Fantasia website here.
