Moody Katsuyama is known for his over the top “moody” songs with absolutely ridiculous lyrics which are sung completely a cappella. To this day, he has several variations of the song, but this is typically the song that most people think of when they hear his name.
The end of a musical legend, the GazettE bassist, REITA, passes away. Personally, I never really followed their music very closely, but I still heard about them from time to time and I still remember when they formed a group in 2002. It’s always sad to lose musical talent like this.
On April 16, news broke over the passing of the GazettE bassist, REITA, who reportedly passed yesterday. In response, the official Twitter account for the Black Butler anime, in which the GazettE performed the season two opening theme, was updated to honor the song.
Regarding REITA’s passing, the website states, “REITA, our bassist, passed on April 15, 2024. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the fans and supporters who have stood by us. We appreciate the kindness shown to him throughout his life.”
Expressing profound grief, the site adds, “His vibrant energy for the band will remain undiminished. Both band members and staff alike are in disbelief and deeply saddened. We cannot even begin to process this sudden loss.”
“We request understanding throughout this grieving process and would like to decline interviews or speculative articles at this time. We hope for your continued support.”
Taking a look at REITA’s personal Twitter account, this appears to have been his last tweet, made early in the morning of April 15:
the GazettE was established in March 2002, actively performing in Tokyo and achieving milestones such as their first Nippon Budokan performance in 2006, arena and Tokyo Dome performances in 2010. From 2011, they participated in major festivals and embarked on their first world tour in 2013, expanding their popularity to 22 cities in 13 countries. REITA was born on May 27th.
One of the most loved video game franchises from Japan, Sonic the Hedgehog, has had a tough time in Hollywood, but even after some misfortunate design choices and miraculous divine intervention, the movies have become something of a cult hit, even on the shores of Japan.
This just in, Keanu Reeves has been cast as Shadow, the dark and sullen antagonist next to the protagonist and “speed of light” Sonic the Hedgehog, in the upcoming SONIC 3 feature film.
Sonic the Hedgehog is a video game series and media franchise developed by Yuji Naka, Naoto Ohshima, and Hirokazu Yasuhara for SEGA. The franchise centers around Sonic, an anthropomorphic blue hedgehog and his fight against the evil Doctor Eggman, a mad scientist.
The series has seen over a dozen separate video game releases along with cartoon adaptions throughout the years, most notably being the two animated series released in tandem, one being more comical while the other was much more dark in tone.
In the 2020 feature film, the original 3D model of the titular character Sonic shocked and horrified long time fans, becoming such a veritable tsunami of negative feedback that the studio had to redesign the models to be more accurate to the original source material. Even Yuji Naka, the creator of Sonic, was generally pleased with the redesigns, but he rightfully pointed out the odd feeling of Sonic’s eyes being entirely separate as opposed to the original designs for the games.
I think all long-time fans of the franchise will be very pleased to hear of Keanu’s involvement on the movie, so let’s just hope that the CG crew, and the funding backing them up, don’t pull another 2020 Sonic…
